“There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in”

—Leonard Cohen

Welcome!

If you are looking at this page you are embarking on a heroic journey.  It requires utmost bravery, honesty, and dogged persistence.  It is crucial that you feel safe with the person with whom you are going to entrust your deepest secrets and fears; for this reason, please take a moment to look over this web site to see if we might be a good fit.

In my years of work with individuals and families I have observed that most often the struggles in relationships, both with loved ones and with ourselves, result from a rejection of who we are, and sometimes who our loved ones are; we exhaust ourselves flailing against reality and warring against ourselves.  In my work with clients I utilize a variety of techniques to help them identify the resources that already exist within them, and to identify what is blocking them from accepting and expressing their true selves.  It is for this reason that I believe therapy at its base is a spiritual journey of acceptance.

I also believe therapy should be practical and solution-focused.  I’ve developed a large tool-box of techniques to help couples and parents communicate in a way that their loved ones can hear them.  I have specialized training in recovery from trauma, and in the integration of self-parts which have been fragmented by childhood abuse.  As a former drug and alcohol counselor, I have compassion for addicts and particularly enjoy supporting them in facing their fears and embracing their feelings, clearing the channel between themselves and their Higher Power.  I also know that though therapy can be painful, it can also be fun and even playful — hence my use of art therapy, sand tray, and story-telling.

The Road to Healing Begins Here

The choice to explore one’s inner self is both exhilarating and frightening. It is a difficult journey to take alone, however.  As human beings we are formed in relationships and it is in relationship with others that our healing happens. I promise to be your warm and supportive ally in your journey back to yourself and to your loved ones.

Meet Liza

I am a warm, resourceful therapist who uses a variety of tools and approaches to effect change. While my primary orientation is cognitive-behavioral, I don’t believe that one therapy suits all clients, and I adapt my techniques to the particular person or family sitting in my office. Treatment models I frequently employ are Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), Internal Family Systems Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Sand Tray Therapy. I offer in-person and telehealth sessions for your convenience.
